Tristram Shandy as Media Art

Filed under: Discussion — moorekc @ 9:19 pm

Folks,

I’ll be making my official presentation post soon, but, if you get the chance, try to take a look at a print copy of Sterne’s Tristram Shandy sometime before class on Tuesday (or at one of the searchable versions available on Amazon). A glance at some of the conspicuous non-textual content should suffice. My presentation will compare, more or less, Shandian digression and multimedia content in the original novel and in several electronic reinterpretations.

  1. Question: Will you be focusing exclusively on the print novel, or are you planning on including other iterations, e.g. the movie *Tristram Shandy: A Cock and Bull Story,* to add some multimedia flair?

  2. The film will definitely come up. I highly recommend it, by the way, to anyone who hasn’t seen it. It’s one of the most intriguing (and I would even risk “true”) cinematic reinterpretations of a novel I can think of. I’ll also be addressing several electronic versions of the book.
