Hi all– Like Kim, I will be presenting a couple of projects I’ve spent time with working for the UC Transliteracies working group on New Reading Interfaces. I’ll be talking tomorrow about two projects created by collaborations of artists affiliated with the Berlin University of the Arts: Moving Canvas and El Muro.In one of the assigned pieces for this week, “Gramophone, Film, Typewriter,” Kittler says that “Sound and image, voice and text are reduced to surface effects, known to consumers as interface.” The pieces I will present tomorrow play with what counts as “surface” and “interface,” and whether the combination of media forms on new interfaces is necessarily reductive. ~Kate
